What is it like to attend this early years setting?

The provision is good

The caring and nurturing staff team creates a warm and welcoming environment where children are happy and settle well.

Children develop secure emotional attachments with staff, which is seen in the kindness and care they receive and give. As a result, children develop confidence and strong relationships. They benefit from an ambitious and well-implemented curriculum and are motivated to learn.

Children develop a positive attitude to their learning, show enthusiasm, and listen and respond well to staff. Older children develop good listening skills. Staff use good intonation and excitement as they read a story about a wi...tch.

They re-enact the story for children using a wooden spoon as a broomstick. Younger children snuggle up to staff to read stories and explore texture books. These activities help children to develop a love for books.

Staff support children to develop their independence skills by encouraging them to do things for themselves. Babies learn to feed themselves through gentle support and encouragement from staff. Toddlers drink from open cups and use flannels to wash their faces, with staff close by to help if needed.

Older children learn to use the toilet independently and wash and dry their hands. Staff praise their efforts and achievements with hugs and high fives. Children delight in the positive attention.

What does the early years setting do well and what does it need to do better?

The managers have a clear vision of what they would like children to achieve during their time in the setting. Managers and staff get to know each child and their family so they can plan for their needs. Children develop high levels of engagement as staff use what they know about children's development to plan and provide a broad range of activities and experiences based on their interests.

Supporting children to lead healthy lifestyles is prioritised by staff. For instance, children eat a range of nutritious meals, and managers and staff carefully consider the safe management of children's allergies and dietary preferences. Children have daily opportunities to be active as they run, jump and balance.

This supports children's overall physical health and well-being.Staff teach children about the similarities and differences between themselves and others. For example, children look at their reflections in mirrors.

Staff talk about the children's friends and family members having different hair, eye and skin colour. Children learn how to be respectful of others.Staff demonstrate a good understanding of the children in their care.

Although they can talk about what they want children to learn next, children's individual next steps are not always specific enough. Not all staff are clear on what they need to teach each child to ensure their learning is supported. This means children are not consistently supported to make the best progress.

Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are supported well. Staff quickly identify gaps in children's learning and put targeted support in place. Managers work alongside other professionals to support children and families in the nursery and at home.

This means that children with SEND make good progress.Children benefit from a language-rich environment. They enjoy joining in with storytelling and singing at group time.

Staff engage children in conversations and provide a narrative while children play. However, staff are not quick to notice when younger children would benefit from more adult interaction to build on their emerging speaking skills.Staff's well-being is given high priority.

They work well together as part of a caring team and are enthusiastic and motivated. The managers implement an effective programme of supervision for all staff to foster a culture of mutual support. The members of the long-serving staff team are encouraged in their professional development and maintain mandatory qualifications, such as paediatric first aid.

Relationships with parents are strong. Parents comment that the nursery is like 'a family'. The staff are friendly and approachable.

Parents value the good settling-in procedure, which makes sure their children are happy. Staff share regular updates through an online app and hold regular parents' evenings. This helps to ensure a consistent approach to children's learning.

Safeguarding

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. There is an open and positive culture around safeguarding that puts children's interests first.

What does the setting need to do to improve?

To further improve the quality of the early years provision, the provider should: strengthen staff's understanding of their key children's learning to identify and target their next steps in learning precisely support staff to recognise when younger children would benefit from more adult interactions to extend and encourage their early speaking skills.
